| Character Details | Razor is a boy whose identity is shrouded in mystery. He lives in Wolvendom and is rarely spotted by the citizens of Mondstadt. According to a handful of eyewitness accounts, Razor has keen senses and is highly agile, traversing the forest at breakneck speed. He is often seen in the company of his wolf pack, while generally avoiding contact with humans. Some speculate that he was an orphan raised by the wolves, while others say he is a wolf spirit that has taken on a human form. Such rumors only add to the mystery of the "Wolf Boy," as the denizens of Mondstadt call him. Meanwhile, Razor the Wolf Boy stands all the while on the hilltops with his head held high, basking in the warm sunlight. |
| Character Story 1 | Razor lives among the wolves night and day. All of them are as close with Razor as they could possibly be. Which wolf has the loudest howl, which wolf runs the fastest, which wolf is the best at ambushing — there isn't a wolf Razor doesn't know. He can sense the mood of the wind, smell a scent from miles away, and knows many practical applications for plants of all kinds. The one thing he can't bring to mind is the faces of his parents. What kind of people were they? No matter how hard he tries, he cannot remember. His memory starts after his life with the wolves had already begun. The wolves took him in as part of their "Lupical" — a word he was taught by someone else, which means family. * Unlocks at Friendship Lv. 2 |
| Character Story 2 | Tiny singing things are flying in the sky. The clouds are long and fluffy, like a wolf's tail. Razor's world is a simple one. On a sunny day, you run around hunting or try and beat your prey to the ripe fruits. On a rainy day, you hide out in a hollow tree and fall asleep hugging a furry lupine friend, with some grass and leaves for a pillow. Eat as much as you can and drink plenty of water. Cool off in the lake when you're hot, and go find some juicy berries when you're thirsty. Razor looks at his body and then at the bodies of his kin. He knows he is different from them. But there's nothing wrong with that, as far as Razor is concerned. * Unlocks at Friendship Lv. 3 |
| Character Story 3 | One day, a tall man came to the mountains and disrupted Razor's peaceful life. Razor did not know who the man was, only that he was a human. Seeing the confused look on Razor's face, the man gave him a friendly smile. "Hey buddy! Why don't you come back down to Mondstadt with me?" The man offered his hand to Razor as he spoke. But neither Razor nor the wolves understood the gesture. Feeling protective, the wolves placed themselves between Razor and the man to keep him away. Razor ducked down beneath the wolves' furry tails. He looked at his body, and then peered out through the gaps in the wolf fur to get a look at the man's. Razor knew he wasn't the most intelligent of beings, and was at a loss to answer the question that has been in his mind ever since that day. "Am I a human, or a wolf?" * Unlocks at Friendship Lv. 4 |
| Character Story 4 | It was that man who gave Razor his name. The simple Wolf Boy could not understand the intricacies of human language, but he knew from the look on the man's face when he produced this sound that the man was giving him a name. "Rae-zer." The shadows cast by the trees of Wolvendom grew short, and then grew long again. The man taught Razor how to swing a sword. Unwieldy though this steel claw may be, thought Razor, it was at least sharp enough to cut through tree branches. "Now you can protect your friends." "Fr-ren-dzz..." Razor imitated the sounds the man made, without understanding what they meant. Similarly, he did not understand why the names of things were all that important in the first place. After all, he never learned the name of that man before he left. * Unlocks at Friendship Lv. 5 |
| Character Story 5 | "Master, what is... 'friends'?" Razor once asked of his new mentor, working at the limits of his vocabulary. His purple-clothed mentor seemed to know it all, from how to make hash browns from potatoes in the ground, to the name of the brightest star in the summer night sky. However, Lisa simply smiled and yawned without answering him. Razor thought about it when the wind blew, when the rain fell — even when Wolfhook berries got stuck in his fur. He just couldn't figure it out. Until one day, Razor met a bright-red, 'burny' girl. They stood in the wind together, got soaked in the rain together — she even rolled around in Wolfhook bushes with him. Her name was Klee. When Razor played with her, it was like being a wolf pup again. "Friends... is... Lupical." Razor may not understand the complexity of human relationships, but he has an honest, primal loyalty to him. "So... protect friends... Lupical... with life." The wolf pack howls in the distance, summoning him home. Razor still does not know if he is a human or a wolf. But he is happy either way. * Unlocks at Friendship Lv. 6 |
| Razor's Crude Wooden Crate | In a box so crudely made that one has to be extra careful when opening it lies Razor's greatest treasures. The broken-off hilt of a greatsword, a children's storybook called The Wolf and the Windwheel Aster, and a dry, withered four-leaf clover. Though he understands neither the intricacies of human relations nor the ways of the world, Razor knows that these are gifts from the ones known as 'friends' — and that is what makes them his most treasured possessions of all. * Unlocks at Friendship Lv. 6 |
| Vision | The story of how Razor got his Vision is one of the few memories that he wishes he could forget. One day, during a lightning storm, an Abyss Mage ambushed Razor from behind and dragged him away. The wolf pack ran to his aid and put up a fearless fight, but every last one of them was defeated by the Abyss Mage. As he looked on helplessly at his dear companions being harmed, Razor let out an almighty roar like that of a cornered animal. "Lupical!" Fueled by his almighty fury, a lightning-like power grew inside, and suddenly an overload of elemental energy was flowing within him. He was ready to protect. He was ready to avenge. He threw off his shackles and raised his weapon. The Abyss Mage was overwhelmed and defeated by a wild, unfettered frenzy of Electro energy, but this time it was too late to save Razor's wolven companions. ... Though he had obtained a Vision, Razor was still unable to manipulate Electro energy with finesse. One day many moons later, when he met the Witch of Purple Rose, Lisa, he began to study human knowledge. "Friends, hurt... Never again! I will... protect them." With each day, Razor grew more skilled in the use of his Vision. He made a silent promise to himself: "I will become stronger. I will become the strongest of them all." Because the day may come when his Lupical faces another threat, and this time, he will protect them. * Unlocks at Friendship Lv. 6 |

My thoughts on “Magic” Razor
I did not understand at first why Razor was considered to have been massively buffed when the leaks started, but after looking into information online by theorycrafters, I think I know understand why.
———————Razor’s Kit as Base————————————————-
As a launch character (1.0), Razor (like many other characters) has a design that seems quirky compared to more recent character releases.
Razor is intended to be an on-field/main DPS character. On launch, he was intended to be a Physical DPS character, with his character ascension stat being Physical Damage % (and to this day, he is the only character to have this as ascension stat). His game play revolves around him going into his Burst State, in which he summons the “Wolf Within”. The Wolf Within deals coordinated Electro normal attacks, intended to apply Electro application to enemies. The intention is for these to combine with cyro to trigger Super-Conduit, and therefore power up Razor’s actual normal attacks, which remain physical. In addition, he gets a massive attack speed bonus which helps increase his overall DPS further.
Such a combination was quite good in the early days of Genshin Impact, but by around 2.0 it started to falter, as physical damage started to falter as a viable damage type while the attention focused to the actual elements.
Razor did get a small revival when Dendro released in 3.0. Unfortunately, he was not able to fully take advantage due to his relatively low amount of electro damage. The physical damage part of his kit was mostly a waste.
———-”New” Razor: Overloaded with Chevreuse, Fischl, and Bennett———————————
With Hoyoverse making the long anticipated decision to buff old units, Razor was fortunate to be among the few to get buffed. Razor will be part of the new best 4* only team in the game.
Here is how it works:
The changes from Razor’s Magic Faction buffs are intended to juice up his Electro damage and make it easier to maintain his Burst State. The first buff is to his “Wolf Within” coordinated attacks. I don’t believe this is an exact calculation, but 70% attack bonus to them is about a 60% damage boost. The motion value for the Electro coordinated attacks go from a paltry 43.2% at level 10 to 113.2% with the Magic boosts, being closer in parity to his physical normal attacks.
If Razor gets an overflow of his Electro Sigls (so more than 4), he gets an instance of bonus damage (150%) and more importantly gets 7 energy. However, won’t work consistently unless he is at C6, which makes C6 REQUIRED.
C6 will allow Razor to get 3 Sigls right away, continue to get them in batches of 3 while using his elemental skill in his burst state, and also give him some very useful crit rate and damage bonuses.
Bennett will give his massive attack boost from his burst as well know, but there is one crucial detail that he also gives at C6: Pyro infusion.
Bennett’s burst will infuse Razor’s normal attacks with Pyro, which means that Razor will be able to take advantage of the 15% Pryo Damage bonus that Bennett’s C6 also gives. More importantly, this will combine with Razor’s Electro dmg (mostly noticeably the “Wolf Within” coordinated attacks while in Burst State) to allow the wolf boy to overload his own hits. Razor’s Pyro and Electro damage will be boosted by Chevreuse’s 40% Pyro and Electro Resistance Shred, and her up to 60% Pyro and Electro Damage Bonus if at C6.
Fischl most importantly unlocks Razor’s Magic faction buffs, but also give additional off-field damage, energy to Razor (from Electro Resonance and Oz’s particle generation) and at C6 gives a great 46% attack boost to both herself and Razor.
**************************************************************************
Turning Razor’s un-boosted Physical hits to boosted Pyro hits is the key to his newfound power.
***************************************************************************
In this team with these specific members, Razor is nearly tied with Gaming for the title as best 4* Main DPS. If all 4 members are at C6, Razor total team damage will at least equal C2 Raiden Shogun/C0 Clorinde in their best Overloaded teams (and possibly even higher).
——————————Possible Substitutes—————————–
The major weakness for Razor (and I think a possible reason why he has not been nerfed despite his power) is how specific his team is. As the newest character and cornerstone of overloaded teams, Chevreuse can work at C0, but C6 is highly recommended. However, Razor and Bennett’s C6s are mandatory, and Fischl’s C6 is nearly mandatory.
The primary substitute is Durin, thanks to his status as a Magic Character, his resistance shred, and his strong off-field Pyro. He would be replacing Fischl or Bennett in the line up. However, losing Fischl means losing a Oz’s battery potential, so Razor may struggle to get his burst up every rotation. Losing Bennett would be a massive decrease in Razor’s personal damage, only somewhat made up by Durin’s damage. So I would not recommended Durin at C0. However, Durin’s constellations give additional buffs that improve team damage, so the trade off could be more worth it in those instances.
————————-Equipment————————————————–
For main stats, Attack % on Sands, Attack % on Goblet (with Bennett) or Electro Damage % (without Bennett) and Crit Damage/Rate for Circlet.
Since most of Razor’s damage will be from Pyro and Electro normal attacks (with Bennett) the best artifact set is Echos of an Offering since it further boosts normal attacks. However, since that set will not trigger consistently in high Ping, Gilded Dreams will be a solid alternative since Razor will be triggering Overload most of the time and will benefit from the EM and Attack buffs that set provides. Gladiator’s Finale is a decent option as well.
Without Bennett, Razor’s elemental skill will become his biggest source of damage, so Golden Troupe will probably be his best (even if he can’t use the full effect since he is will be on field). A mix of 2 pieces of Attack or Electro Damage will also fare well.
For weapons, the best 3* is Debate Club, but Tidal Shadow outclasses it as a craft-able (and therefore free to play) weapon. BP weapon Serpent Spine is the best 4* weapon.
For 5* weapons, Skyward Pride is great if Razor is missing Fischl, and Wolf’s Gravestone is great if he doesn’t have Bennett. Beacon of the Red Sea (Dehya’s signature) is a great balanced weapon, but the best (with Bennett) would be Mavuika’s weapon (A Thousand Blazing Suns).
——————————-Summary———————————————–
In summary, I feel that newer players should simply go for Varesa instead if they want an Overloaded team, as at C0 she is cheaper and better than Razor. However, veteran players who got C6 Razor, Bennett, and Fischl years ago may want to consider bringing him off the bench.
It’s great to see an old character like Razor get some love after so many years.
they’re buffing old charas, but guess what? they’re doing it on constellation set, with minimal touch on base kit
razor now it’s a wierdo, who has ph.dmg ascension but now focused on electro damage
just fkn why? remove that crap ascension and give him atk at this point, if not electro like beidou
Who is he
Findings about Razor at patch 3.0:
As of Patch 3.0, Razor team is insane Elemental Damage Dealer with Dendro Traveller, Xingqiu and Bennet. It requires Bennett C6 to deal the Bloom Seeds resulting Burgeon Reaction, otherwise it does not work that lacks AoE behind Bennet C6.
Clips from Zajef77 below.
Builds:
1. Razor build needs full Elemental Mastery with Favonius Greatsword with enough Crit Rate and Energy Recharge on his stats. Varies with your builds.
2. Bennett has a usefulness with his constellation 6, and Self-Overload of the Razor Burst. Use any weapons you want with enough Energy Recharge. It is ideal to use 4pc Instructor Artifact set.
3. Dendro Traveller (DMC) needs more Energy Recharge that recommends Favonius Sword with enough Crit Rate. Must be equipped with 4pc Deepwood Memories artifact set to decrease Dendro RES to opponents.
4. Xingqiu is fine, needs more Energy Recharge for his Elemental Burst varies with your builds you like.
