I love using her with national team, less damage than Heizou but great to avoid getting ping ponged.

For subDPS Lan Yan, would gilded dreams + wandering evenstar be a good combo? It’d cover her base EM and ATK very well I figure. Obviously crit would be a priority but I worry it’d be hard to get meaningful dmg% trying to build that way.
its gonna be good, as long you trigger elemental reaction with her, crit probably isnt worth investing for her, eince she wants to trigger elemental reaction with her skill
VV is probably still better though, since any reaction she triggers will benefit from Res shred; it also benefits her teammates, especially the likes of Furina, Xiangling, Fischl, Beidou, who deal significant damage from off-field (you might want Furina anyways for her dmg%).
There are even considerations of Chasca using VV over Obsidian, and the threshold of VV pulling ahead is 22% Res on enemies – this is for Chasca alone without considering teammate damage – though that was for ideal situations where Chasca swirls every element, which is near impossible so Obsidian is still recommended. (Just putting this here for how important shred is). Lan Yan however, can swirl with much more ease and consistency, and likely has teammates contributing significant damage.
What is Lan Yan best weapon now, other than Citlali’s weapon?

not stronger then zongs, because geo based shield have better elemental resistance to everything, and his just passive shread,, also the factor of higher shield hp. but she will still be a good replacement for zong, in terms offf, using them in the abyss for the other team. but no shes def 2nd or 3rd best in the game, so yeah not unusable.
In single target where there’s only going to be one type of elemental damage to worry about (such as versus consecrated beasts, abyss heralds/lectors, or some bosses), an appropriately converted shield will have way more elemental resistance than Zhongli’s.
The convertion can only happen during E dash, so to get the right element I think you will have to either get hit during or just before dash, or the enemy is an elemental lifeform and has a perpetual self aura, or have a teammate who has the same element as the enemy.
The last case is interesting in that if you are stuck with a limited number of available characters, say, for whatever reason you must use Furina in a fight against Hydro Consecrated Beasts, Lan Yan can provide more Res shred than Zhongli, and has a thicker shield (though with lower uptime), which might just be enough for you to pass the challenge.
Her scaling does beat Zhongli by about 3,000-4,000.

Seriously, there are whole games that don’t function in co-op without a healer, and that enables some harder boss fights… Supports literally rely on better reflexes than the average DPS to make sure others survive and that’s pretty exciting tbh
